It’s Friday and time for the 3rd Edition of the Meet the Team Blog series, a weekly series where we feature Q&As from the Ecobloom team. If this is your first time following along, be sure to check out Editions 1 and 2, about CEO Hamza Qadoumi and Tech Lead Arijeet S. Laga. But now, time for round 3 with Juan José Blasco!
What is your name?
Juan José Blasco Burguillos
What is your background? Where are you from?
My background is Systems Engineering with a focus in satellite systems. I got interested in the Internet of Things and smart sensors when I met Hamza during my master studies at TU Delft. The EcoGarden was the perfect starting point to share our dreams with other people and to work towards our goals.
What is your role at Ecobloom? Describe it as if you were describing it to a 5-year old (2 sentences or less).
My role at Ecobloom involves experimenting and studying how we can use the latest technology discoveries to make sure we can ensure plants can grow healthy and without wasting resources.
What is your favorite memory from your time at Ecobloom thus far?
Receiving our first electronic prototype! I was very excited as it was one of my first designs that had to account for the production process. Quite challenging but a lot of fun and learning! I spent that whole day soldering and testing which I really enjoy.
What is the best thing about working for a start-up?
A challenging environment where you always need to adapt and learn new things plus being able to do it in order to solve the problems we believe are important for the future.
What are you most looking forward to happening at Ecobloom in the future?
We want to revolutionize the future of growing. I believe that there is so much that we can measure and optimize in aquaponics and hydroponics farms, making use of smart and connected sensors. We have just started this journey and the family was born with the EcoGarden. I’m looking forward to seeing our great family keep growing and to have more and more people joining the team.
If you were an herb, which one would you be, and why?
I would be mint, because I love its refreshing flavor!
What is your favorite thing about the EcoGarden?
My favorite thing about the EcoGarden is how it has allowed us to connect with so many people who share our vision and dreams.
Where would you like to take a business trip someday?
To Andalusia, the south of Spain! One of the best, warmest, and most beautiful places in the world 🙂
What is a personal hobby of yours that your coworkers would be surprised to know about?
暇な時に日本語を勉強することが大好きです
